Biological Information
Background Information:
Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is a NAD(+)-dependent deacetylase enzyme that plays an important role in the regulation of various cellular processes, including metabolism, cell survival, and aging. SIRT1 is a member of the Sirtuin family of proteins, which are involved in the regulation of gene expression and cellular metabolism through the deacetylation of lysine residues on histones and other proteins. SIRT1 plays a crucial role in the regulation of metabolism by deacetylating and activating various transcription factors and co-regulators involved in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism. SIRT1 is also involved in the regulation of aging and lifespan, with overexpression of SIRT1 shown to extend lifespan in various organisms. SIRT1 is an important epigenetic protein with potential therapeutic applications. Its activation has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and extend lifespan in preclinical models of metabolic disorders and aging, respectively.
