Biological Information
Background Information:
JMJD2E (Jumonji domain-containing protein 2E), also known as KDM4E, is a histone demethylase that belongs to the JmjC domain-containing protein family. Like other members of this family, JMJD2E specifically targets di- and tri-methylated lysine residues on histones H3 and H4, and catalyzes their removal, leading to changes in chromatin structure and gene expression. JMJD2E is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the brain, heart, and liver, and is involved in the regulation of various cellular processes, including differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. JMJD2E has been implicated in the development of several types of cancer, including breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers. Additionally, recent studies have suggested that JMJD2E is involved in the regulation of pluripotency and differentiation of embryonic stem cells. Therefore, JMJD2E has emerged as a potential target for the development of novel therapeutics for cancer, metabolic diseases, and regenerative medicine.
