Biological Information
Background Information:
JMJD2C (Jumonji domain-containing protein 2C), also known as KDM4C, is a histone demethylase that belongs to the JmjC domain-containing protein family. Like other members of this family, JMJD2C specifically targets di- and tri-methylated lysine residues on histones H3 and H4, and catalyzes their removal, leading to changes in chromatin structure and gene expression. JMJD2C is expressed in a variety of tissues, including the brain, heart, and liver, and is involved in the regulation of various cellular processes, including differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. JMJD2C has been implicated in the development of several types of cancer, including breast, ovarian, and colorectal cancers. It has also been shown to play a role in the regulation of various viral infections, including human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV). Therefore, JMJD2C has emerged as a potential target for the development of novel therapeutics for cancer and viral infections.
