Biological Information

Background Information:

Kit is a receptor tyrosine kinase that binds the cytokine ligand KITLG/SCF, leading to receptor dimerisation, autophosphorylation, and activation of downstream signalling pathways including PI3K-AKT, RAS-RAF-MAPK, and JAK-STAT. It plays key roles in hematopoiesis, mast cell development, melanogenesis, gametogenesis, and stem?cell maintenance. Activating mutations or over-expression of Kit are implicated in several malignancies such as gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST), melanoma, mastocytosis, and acute myeloid leukaemia.
