Biological Information
Background Information:
Hsp70 is a multifunctional molecular chaperone involved in numerous cellular processes, including safeguarding proteome integrity under stress, facilitating the folding and intracellular trafficking of nascent polypeptides, promoting the clearance of misfolded proteins, and regulating the assembly and disassembly of protein complexes. It serves as a central component of the cellular protein quality control network, coordinating productive folding and refolding pathways while directing irreversibly misfolded proteins toward appropriate degradation mechanisms. Hsp70 is implicated in many cancers, neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular conditions and metabolic syndromes, making it a compelling target for therapeutic intervention. Expression of Hsp70 family members often correlates with tumour progression and poor outcomes.
