Job Title: Portfolio Manager

Summary
The Portfolio Manager (PM) plays a pivotal role in the development and launch of new products and services to meet corporate strategic and tactical objectives utilizing a Phase Gate Review Process.  The PM is an experienced project manager and is expected to be knowledgeable about the overall NPI programs they oversee to be strategic in planning, team management, and process management. The PM provides high quality project management support to enable team and project success.

Essential Functions

  • Applying project management expertise and methodologies to NPI Phase Gate Review process
  • Developing, refining, and training on processes to improve Phase Gate Review across the company
  • Using project management knowledge to be strategic in planning short-, mid-, and long-term project plans and identify interdependencies
  • Developing, maintaining, tracking, and managing high quality, integrated project plans that enable accurate reporting and decision making
  • Developing and writing Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions
  • Developing and refining process documentation
  • Managing project plans and identifying key project risks with project team leaders
  • Managing team and corporate process effectively to drive the success of project deliverables
  • Escalating project issues and recommending resolutions to senior leadership in a timely manner
  • Communicating effectively with project team members, senior leaders, and the broader organization
  • Scheduling, leading, and facilitating effective team meetings
  • Leveraging well-developed interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationships with multiple departments
  • Contributing to functional excellence and business improvement

Required Education/Experience/Competencies
  • Passion for project planning and process improvement
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in scientific discipline
  • 5-7 years project management experience
  • Experience in implementing processes with diverse, cross-functional teams
  • Experience managing several large and small projects at the same time
  • Ability to think strategically and critically when planning, managing project teams, and managing processes
  • Ability to “see the big picture” to foresee potential issues or areas of concern and escalate those concerns early in the process with project team and/or leadership
  • Strong project management skills, including experience in developing project maps/plans and GANTT charts.
  • Skillful use of interpersonal skills and influence to accomplish work without formal authority and to ensure optimal team performance
  • Excellent communication skills, with a track record of developing communication mechanisms that ensure accuracy, clarity, and collaboration
  • Sound judgement, problem solving, leadership, and collaboration in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to problems
  • Proven track record of working effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Advanced skills in MS Project and Excel
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Advanced degree
  • PMP certification, or equivalent project management certification


Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
Office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel
Minimal travel expected to sites in South San Francisco, San Diego, and St. Charles, MO.

Job Title: Regional Manager, East Coast

Reports to:  Senior Vice President, Global Sales and Distribution
Classification:  Exempt
Location:  Eastern Half of North America (East Coast, West to Chicago)

Summary
The regional manager is responsible for all DiscoverX business in the eastern half of North America.  The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a drug discovery products and services sales team consisting of 6-8 reps and specialists covering the entire DiscoverX and Eurofins Pharma Discovery Services (EPDS) portfolios. Ideally this position will be geographically located in Boston or the greater New England area.

Essential Functions

  • Achieve/exceed assigned sales targets for the assigned territories.
  • Manage up to 6 Account Managers and up to 3 Specialists.
  • Maintain an accurate sales forecast.
  • Assist with large service contract acquisition and renewals.
  • Maintain an awareness of business and market related trends to provide feedback to senior management.
  • Monitor competitive activities in current and targeted markets.
  • Focus overall direction of selling/training initiatives towards strategic selling.
  • Assist and coach Account Managers to develop, support, and implement customer-specific action plans.
  • Support field Account Managers on compensation, forecasts and expense plans.
  • Provide continuous performance related feed-back to the Account Managers.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Required Education/Experience/Competencies
  • Bachelors or Masters in Pharmacology or related life science.
  • 5+ years of experience in capabilities focused, science-based selling.
  • Experience in selling discovery services and reagents to pharmaceutical and biotech companies is required.
  • Ability to train/develop a team of account managers with emphasis on large projects and corporate contracts.
  • Ability to manage and grow key accounts across the region.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in drug discovery research strongly preferred.
  • 3 years' previous management experience preferred.


Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages the East Coast sales team and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within the department.

Travel
Ability to travel up to 50%. 2-3 days per week.

Job Title: Director of Product Management

Summary
The Director of Product Management, Products and Services is a global position leading the product management team responsible for the drug discovery and ADME/Tox market segments. This cross-functional role will include strategy development, product roadmaps, product development, pricing, and marketing. This position requires management and development of direct reports.

Essential Functions

  • This role is ultimately responsible for strategy, portfolio management, revenue, and market share objectives
  • Provide product management leadership from pre-concept through commercialization. Develop short- and long-range product strategies. Guide fiscal planning for future positioning, growth, and evolution of the product platforms. This includes identifying, establishing and managing strategic relationships with customers, suppliers and industry opinion leaders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members and business leads to ensure delivery of new products and services and leverage existing ones
  • Serve as the leader of a cross-functional team, leading voice of customer research, product and services definitions, product and services features, performance requirements and tradeoffs, product value proposition and business cases. Translate this output for future directions to provide leadership with objectives for technology development and business development efforts
  • Analyze and incorporate the impact of key markets, technical trends, customer needs and competitive offerings of products and services. Develop product roadmaps with priority ranking of new product features and functionalities to recommend investments to drive growth
  • Serve as portfolio champion with internal stakeholders, regional teams, and key team members
  • Responsible for strong partnerships across R&D teams for delivery of on-time product launches, commercial enablement strategies and tactics, and commercial success of NPI
  • Leveraging business development to develop optimal licensing, partnership, and acquisition strategies that expand product and services portfolios
  • Maintain close interaction with sales organizations through training and active participation in the sales process, including customer visits, pricing tactics, and customer support
  • Partner with commercial colleagues for product and services to ensure pricing framework that enables field sales success and meeting profitability objectives
  • Work with commercial teams and historical data to provide forecast of products and services
  • Define and drive all marketing activities including segmentation branding, product level branding, messaging, and positioning across all channels. This includes comprehensive marketing campaigns leveraging across channels to create awareness, develop contacts, cultivate to leads, and help drive sales
  • Lead and develop the product management team including training and mentorship to enable for success through coaching and development

Required Education/Experience/Competencies
  • Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in the life science market
  • Demonstrated success leading a team in multiple locations
  • Management of business initiatives with experience leading, developing, and growing successful businesses with highly technical products in the life science research and/or drug discovery markets
  • Experience in the integration of multiple companies/businesses into a unified brand, message, and value proposition
  • Demonstrated capability reading technology and market trends, and strategically planning future portfolio opportunities
  • Ability to develop, engage, and retain high potential talent
  • Demonstrated change management skills and experiences
  • Strong personal drive and motivation to reach new objectives and drive change
  • Demonstrated experience translating business and commercial plans into commercially successful and profitable product offerings
  • Strong financial acumen; able to understand impact of negotiation points on a business engagement
  • Up to 25% travel, domestic and international

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Degree in biology, biochemistry, or related discipline. M.Sc. or Ph.D. preferred. MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic marketing and/or product management
  • 5+ years of people management and business leadership
  • Demonstrated success leading product management in a highly matrixed global organizational structure
