Biological Information

Background Information:

SETD2 (SET Domain Containing 2) is a histone methyltransferase that catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to the lysine 36 residue of histone H3 (H3K36), leading to the formation of mono-, di-, and trimethylated H3K36. SETD2 is a member of the SET domain-containing protein family and is the only known enzyme that specifically methylates H3K36. SETD2 plays a crucial role in the regulation of transcriptional elongation by methylating H3K36 on actively transcribed genes, and it is involved in the recruitment of transcriptional elongation factors, including FACT and the PAF complex.
SETD2 is an important epigenetic protein with potential therapeutic applications. Its inhibition has been shown to suppress tumor growth and improve the response to chemotherapy in preclinical models of cancer.
