Background Information: | Protein kinase Ce (PKCe) is one of the major protein kinase C isoforms of a family of serine/threonine protein kinases. Breakdown of phosphatidylinositol leads to formation of diacylglycerol and inositol triphosphate, the former acting synergistically with Ca2+ to activate protein kinase C (PKC), resulting in translocation of the enzyme from cytosol to the membrane. Phosphorylation of proteins by PKC has been implicated as a pivotal regulatory element in signal transduction, cellular regulation, and with a high affinity to phorbol ester tumor promoters.
