Biological Information
Background Information:
hPHF8 (plant homeodomain finger protein 8) is a histone demethylase that belongs to the PHF (plant homeodomain finger) family. hPHF8 specifically targets tri-methylated lysine 9 and 27 on histone H3 (H3K9me3 and H3K27me3, respectively), and catalyzes their removal, leading to changes in chromatin structure and gene expression. hPHF8 has been implicated in the regulation of several diseases, including cancer, intellectual disability, and cleft lip and palate. Mutations in the PHF8 gene have been associated with cases of X-linked mental retardation and various developmental disorders. hPHF8 has also been shown to play a role in the regulation of androgen receptor signaling, which is involved in the development and progression of prostate cancer. hPHF8 is an important epigenetic protein with potential therapeutic applications. Its inhibition has been shown to suppress tumor growth and improve response to chemotherapy in prostate cancer.
