Background Information:

3-Hydroxyoctanoic acid is a signaling chemical emitted by orchids that may also be a marker for primary defects of the β-hydroxy fatty acid metabolism. A polymer of 3-hydroxyoctanoic acid produces a carbon and energy reserve form for bacteria. Also used to produce polyhydroxyalkanoates used in medical devices and tissue engineering applications. Provided as 5 mg of dry powder.
