Background Information:
2-(Methylthio)adenosine 5′-triphosphate (2-methylthio-ATP) is an ATP analog that is a more selective agonist of the P2γ purinergic receptor. Adenosine 5'-triphosphate is a nucleoside triphosphate that is key to intracellular energy transfer. It is responsible for transporting chemical energy within cells for metabolism, is an end product of phosphorylation, cellular respiration, and fermentation, and is used in many cellular processes.
