Background Information: | NEK3 (NIMA-related kinase 3) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that belongs to the NIMA (Never in Mitosis A)-related kinase family. It is involved in a variety of cellular processes, including cell cycle regulation, mitosis, apoptosis, and cytoskeletal organization. NEK3 has a conserved kinase domain, a C-terminal regulatory domain, and a nuclear localization signal. It is expressed in a wide range of tissues and cell types and is regulated by various post-translational modifications, including phosphorylation, acetylation, and ubiquitination. Recent studies have suggested that NEK3 plays a critical role in promoting tumor growth and survival, making it a potential target for cancer therapy. Additionally, NEK3 has been implicated in a number of other diseases, including heart disease and Alzheimer's disease. |
