Biological Information
Background Information:
WRN is a member of the RecQ Helicase family that incudes RECQ1, BLM, RECQ4 and RECQ5. Mutations in WRN can lead to Werner syndrome, characterized by premature ageing and cancer predisposition. It is a multifunctional enzyme with helicase and exonuclease activities and plays roles in various cellular processes important for the maintenance of genome stability, including DNA replication, transcription, DNA repair, and telomere maintenance. Recent studies have identified WRN as a potent and selective vulnerability of microsatellite instability-high cancers.
