Biological Information
Background Information:
RECQ5 belongs to the RecQ family of DNA helicases which includes WRN, BLM, RECQ1 and RECQ4. RECQ5 deficiency has been shown to cause genomic instability and the helicase has been linked to cancer predisposition, cardiovascular disease, and inflammation. RECQ5 has been shown to regulate DNA repair pathways, particularly DNA double-strand breaks and inter-strand DNA crosslinks by acting as a negative regulator of the recombinase protein RAD51. The helicase has also been shown to safeguard against transcription-induced DNA damage by interacting with transcription machineries and their co-regulatory proteins.
