Biological Information

Background Information:

PIP5K1α (Phosphatidylinositol-4-Phosphate 5-Kinase Type 1 Alpha) is a lipid kinase that phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate (PI4P) to generate phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) in the plasma membrane. PIP2 is an important signaling molecule that regulates a variety of cellular processes, including cytoskeletal dynamics, ion channel activity, and membrane trafficking. Research has suggested that PIP5K1α plays a role in several diseases, including cancer, inflammatory disorders, and neurological disorders. It has been shown to promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion, and inhibition of PIP5K1α has been suggested as a potential cancer therapy. Additionally, PIP5K1α has been implicated in the regulation of immune cell function, making it a potential target for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and inflammatory disorders.
