Biological Information

Background Information:

Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase isoenzyme 4 (PDHK4) is a member of the PDK/BCKDK protein kinase family. PDHK4 plays a key role in regulation of glucose and fatty acid metabolism and homeostasis via phosphorylation of the pyruvate dehydrogenase subunits PDHA1 and PDHA2. PDHK4 is one of the three pyruvate dehydrogenase kinases that inhibits the PDH complex by phosphorylation of the E1 alpha subunit. This gene is predominantly expressed in the heart and skeletal muscles. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]
