Dr. Pyare Khanna

Dr. Khanna is the founder and CEO of DiscoveRx. He has over 25 years of experience in the biotechnology industry and played a key role in the commercialization of the Enzyme Fragment Complementation (EFC) Assay technology. He has over 40 issued patents and approximately 40 scientific publications. He is an inventor on the vast majority of patents related to the use and applications of EFC Assay technology. Prior to founding DiscoveRx, Dr. Khanna was President and CEO of Microgenics, which was founded as a result of a management buy-out from the Roche-Boehringer Mannheim merger. Dr. Khanna has also served as Vice President and Head of the U.S. Laboratory Diagnostics Division for Boehringer Mannheim Corp. He was a cofounder of ChemTrak and Assistant Director of Research for the Syva Company. Dr. Khanna has a Ph.D. in bio-organic chemistry.

Sailaja Kuchibhatla

Ms. Sailaja Kuchibhatla is Senior Vice President of Business Development responsible for activities that include creating and managing new business opportunities and initiatives for the drug discovery research market, and licensing in to DiscoveRx and licensing out DiscoveRx technologies. Ms. Kuchibhatla began her career at Clontech in 1989 in the research and development organization. After six years of varied and increasing responsibility within R&D, she moved into Marketing, followed by her most recent appointment as VP of Business Development. As a key member of the marketing and business development group for the last 10 years, Ms. Kuchibhatla handled various responsibilities, including leading the marketing team and licensing of key technologies for Clontech in the last five years. She was a member of the Senior Leadership team at BD Biosciences/Clontech and a member of the Technology Strategy and Business Development team at BD Biosciences. She holds MS and BS degrees in Plant Sciences.

Sanj Kumar

Sanj Kumar is Vice President and General Manager, responsible for the European Operation in DiscoveRx. Sanj has a long history of working for life science companies and taking new technologies to market. His career started at Pharmacia Biotech, where he was responsible for the setting up of the telemarketing operation and managing a sales territory simultaneously. In 1994 he moved to Pharmacia Biosensor, which later became Biacore, where he spent seven years, taking optical biosensor technology to market, making his way from UK Sales Manager to European Vice President Sales & Marketing. In 2001, Sanj joined DiscoveRx, and set up the European Operation, growing the business in revenue and personnel. Sanj studied at the Institute of Neurology in London, UK and the department if biomedicine in Nagoya, Japan. He was founding treasurer of the European LRIG organization and has served on Biotechnology and Bioinformatics theme panel of the Biochemical Society.

David Martz

David Martz has worked over 20 years in sales and marketing in the Life Science Industry. He has a track record of success and high rates of sustained revenue growth in both large and small company environments where he has primarily focused on providing innovative technological solutions to address emerging market needs. David’s last position was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at QIAGEN/SABiosciences where he was responsible for global revenues from the commercialization of pathway based gene expression profiling tools for biomarker identification and screening. After the acquisition of SABio by QIAGEN, David was responsible for the Global integration of SABio and managed the North American Sales Specialist organization. David received his B.S. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Washington, and his MBA from the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. David now lives in the San Francisco Bay area and will work from the main Fremont office at DiscoveRx.

Jagdish Saini

Mr. Jagdish Saini, Vice President of Operations brings over 24 years of experience in the Biotechnology industry in various management positions. His roles have included leading positions in Operations, Technical Services and R&D. Prior to joining DiscoveRx, Mr. Saini was Director of Operations of Cortex Biochem, Inc. a privately held biotechnology company in San Leandro. He has worked extensively with Enzyme Fragment Technology and was a key player in the development of CEDIA technology and its application to a wide range of instruments while working at Microgenics Corp. and Roche-Boehringer Mannheim. His earlier careers included working at BioGenex Laboratories, and teaching at DAV College Chandigarh, India. Mr. Saini has a Master’s degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry from Punjabi University, India.

Dr. Tom Wehrman

Dr. Wehrman heads the Research and Assay Development programs as the Vice President of Research & Development. He is a co-inventor of the PathHunter® technology and brings 14 years of assay development experience to the team. At DiscoveRx, Dr. Wehrman initiated the development of the PathHunter technology and led its expansion across a range of cellular targets including GPCRs, nuclear steroid hormone receptors, and tyrosine kinases. Prior to joining DiscoveRx, Dr. Wehrman performed his graduate and post-graduate studies in the Molecular Pharmacology Department at Stanford. He developed several assay platforms for monitoring protein translocation, protein interactions, and siRNA technologies leading to several issued and pending patents and publications.
