Prostaglandin E2 is a naturally occuring product of the arachidonic acid/cyclooxygenase pathway that influences many biological processes, including inflammation, immunity, relaxation of smooth muscle, fertility, paturition, and gastric mucosal integrity. Potent agonist of the prostaglandin receptors EP1, EP2, EP3, and EP4 (KDs=1-10nM). It has been marketed as a medicine for labor induction by multiple laboratories, including Forest Laboratories, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, and Pfizer.
