Background Information:

p53 is a transcription factor that functions as a master regulator of cellular stress responses. It is often referred to as the “guardian of the genome” because of its central role in maintaining genomic integrity by orchestrating DNA repair, cell-cycle arrest, senescence, and apoptosis in response to genotoxic and oncogenic stress. Loss or mutation of p53 occurs in over 50% of human cancers, representing one of the most common oncogenic events.
