Summary
The successful candidate for the Scientist/Senior Scientist position currently open at the BioMAP division of DiscoverX will be a highly motivated and innovative individual with comprehensive knowledge and expertise in immunology and oncology, including immune-oncology (IO) and autoimmune disease biology. The candidate will be expected to play a pivotal role in leading scientific expertise in our proprietary BioMAP platform technology to support our clients’ drug development programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis and interpretation of compound testing for multiple biopharmaceutical clients. As part of the Research Biology team, the successful candidate will work within a group of talented, motivated and dedicated colleagues as well as collaborate with our clients across the globe to develop successful clinical compounds.

Essential Functions

  • Lead experimental design, analysis and interpretation of data on compound testing in human primary cell-based assays modeling inflammation, oncology and autoimmunity.
  • Hands-on experience and expertise in multi-parametric flow cytometry experiments in the areas of inflammation, immune oncology, and autoimmune disease, encompassing technical design of flow cytometric assays, data analysis and reporting, literature reviews and trouble-shooting.
  • Prepare and deliver clear and concise oral and written presentations for senior management and biopharmaceutical clients. Candidate will be expected to draft, interpret and explain complex in vitro data in the context of physiological and clinical biology.
  • Publication of study results and presentation of findings at multi-disciplinary project team meetings and external scientific conferences.
  • Work within cross-functional teams to achieve group and company goals within defined timeframes and resources.
  • Maintain mastery of relevant and changing scientific literature and incorporate current knowledge and technologies into the BioMAP platform to support the predictive value and knowledge to help guide client programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience/Competencies
  • Ph.D. in the life sciences, with a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral experience preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human primary cell based assay and cell culture techniques, including proficiency in working with human immune cell types.
  • Strong expertise in primary cell culture, immune cell biology, flow cytometry, biochemical signaling, and analytical skills (FlowJo or related analytical applications).
  • Excellent track record in publishing scientific findings.
  • Ability to independently design, analyze, and interpret cell-based experiments from a variety of techniques including primary cell culture, flow cytometry, immunoassays and immunohistochemistry.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate in a global environment.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills are required to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Candidate should be organized, self-motivated and a team player; a consensus builder with a creative mind and well equipped to establish and implement innovative business solutions and concepts.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience with data analysis programs such as Spotfire, Tableau, Prism, and/or familiarity with the R programming language.
  • Previous experience in drug development, particularly in inflammation and IO drug development.


Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
Office-based and laboratory-based position. Potential for business travel. This position operates in a BSL1/2 laboatory setting. There is potential for exposure to human tissues and fluids.

Travel
Less than 10% but potential to increse business travel with experience.

Summary
Responsibilities shall include execution and analysis of high-throughput screening experiments in a team environment. Primary responsibilities to include data analysis and troubleshooting (using the scientific method to design, execute, and interpret hypothesis-driven experiments); and generation of study reports.

Essential Functions

  • Key role in a centralized screening team conducting data analysis for automated high throughput screening, statistics and QC principles
  • Leveraging cutting edge instrumentation and technologies to drive Drug Discovery
  • Developing and performing multiple cell-based and biochemical assays which support diverse innovative projects
  • Documenting, compiling, analyzing, and presenting experimental data

Required Education/Experience/Competencies
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the life sciences or physical sciences
  • 2+ years of experience at a pharmaceutical / biotechnology company or research institute
  • Demonstrated understanding of data analysis packages for automated high throughput screening, statistics and QC principles
  • Demonstrated ability to independently execute studies and provide reports and results to major stakeholders
  • Excellent quantitative analytical skills and familiarity with best practices in biochemistry and cell biology
  • Capable of multitasking and properly prioritizing tasks
  • Experience with basic Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Enthusiasm and outstanding written and oral communication skill
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and efficiently manage multiple assignments are essential
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast paced, cross-functional, flexible and team-oriented environment

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in pharmacology, enzymology, or assay development
  • Experience with high throughput data analysis, curve fitting and reporting
  • Expertise with development of fluorescence, luminescence and FRET cellular assay

Summary

Eventually lab responsibilities to include data analysis and troubleshooting (using the scientific method to design, execute, and interpret hypothesis-driven experiments); and maintenance of laboratory supplies and infrastructure.

  • Basic laboratory skills, including liquid handling, reagent preparation, and chemistry-related calculations- including calculations of stock concentrations, making serial dilutions, etc.
